This is Coal. 10 yr old AQHA mare, foundation bred. This is the mare that had gotten hurt last June. It's looking like she won't be too sound for riding. Of course everyone wants to know what I'm going to do with her but I can't make up my mind. I took these photos today. She isn't square in all of them and is resting her bad leg a few times...my fault since I took so long in getting the photos..that or I was boring?? She hasn't been really worked since last June so she is out of shape. I'm also going to include a link to her pedigree and would like opinions on that also. I have to decide if I'm going to sell her,keep her as a pet or maybe, maybe bred her. I had org. went looking for a broodmare when I bought her but when I saw what they were doing to her I had to get her out of there and then she just turned out to be such a great trail horse for me I kept her. Wow I can't believe that was 5 yrs ago!

Coal is simply beautiful. Excellent conformation that I like to see in a horse.

She would make a great addition to my barn if I had room. I would love to see a foal from her out of Cruiser's father.

Who is Cruiser's sire? Does he have a website?

I hate to sell her. I really do like her and it feels like I would just be tossing her out because I couldn't ride her. If I do breed her I was looking at a Frenchmans Guy stud that I really like. He and his foals are doing good in barrels. Or I found an Okie Leo stud the other day that I like the looks of. He is reining/cutting bred but they are also doing barrels with him. I haven't gone to see him yet. And there is a Mr Joe Glo stud that I liked also, just a real sweet heart. The type of stud you don't know he is a stud uless you look. I have owned a number of the Okie Leo/Mr Joe Glo horses and I loved them. All great looking horses with good minds.

Cruiser and Profit have the same Sire.

He is an AQHA Champion, Skip Zan Par, Superior Western Please Horse son of Zan Par Bar out of an AQHA Champion Skipper W mare. He has produced winners in almost every event from halter to reining and roping. He is in his twenties now and his babies old and new are still doing well.

He lives in Oregon. His owner Nancy is the nicest person you would ever want to deal with. She has been in the horse breeding business for over 40 years and purchased Zan at a dispersal sale in the mid 90s for over $85,000. We visited her in the Summer of 1999 and we were impressed with the quality of her studs and their offspring. Her philosophy of a true versatile working quarter horse meshed well with ours.

We keep in regular contact with her with Profit and Cruiser updates and have called her for emergency foaling advice in the middle of the night and received very willing helpful advice.

I think you would be VERY happy with the result of a Baby from Coal and Zan.

Is she sound enough to withstand the hardship of carrying the extra weight of a foal & then keeping up with it after it is born? If so, I'd say keep her and breed her! She is a very nice looking mare & should cross well with a number of lines.

You mentioned an Okie Leo stud...I am crazy about that breeding. I had an Okie Leo granddaughter for many years and she had 3 nice foals for me. The only troble with that line is that they tend to be too darned smart sometimes...

She is beautiful! And what a jaw line! If she could carry a foal, it would be nice to keep her and breed her. I DO know that the Zan Par Bar line is excellent as are the lines you mentioned. ( I'm going back to my AQHA days) You kind of have to look at what you want to do with the foal and if you want to sell it, look at the trend that is the most popular. She is a beauty and you know her disposition, so I'd lean towards a baby. The BIG decision is... "Who's your Daddy?" Good luck!

When I had her down at Madison I asked about breeding and he said that it shouldn't be a problem. Jazz is going for an ultrasound in a few weeks I was going to take Coal down to see what the vet thinks about riding and breeding. I just hate this wait and see stuff.

Being AQHA I know Skip Zan Par!! I was planning on going more barrle racing bred with her but a pleasure bred foal would be more to what I would need. I use to barrle race but not as much now unless the horse was good at it. If I bred it would more then likely be to sell, and not until next year. Jazz is bred already and I don't want to deal with two until the barn is finished being remodeled.

Coal is a beautiful mare. I'm so sorry that she was hurt and may not be able to be ridden. I'd certainly be tempted to keep her and see what type of babies she can raise. []
