We will soon be leasing a pony for my 10 year old daughter and we need to buy an English saddle... What size should we get? (My daughter has a slender build.) How many years before she would likely outgrow this saddle?

Also, what size Western saddle would be best? And finally, is there a website out there that illustrates how you measure a western and english saddle? (I've been reading about cantle and horn heights and seat lengths and I haven't a clue as to the point of reference for measurements.)

Thanks for your help,

This answer is without the knowledge of your daughter's height and weight. The average 10 year old should fit into a 13" western or 14" English saddle. She would most likely get 2 - 3 years of fit for the western befor needing 14". If it were my daughter I would put her in a 14" Western and 14" English which would last until her mid-late teens.

-Warmest regards

I have a GREAT 14.5 " Textan Hereford Pilgrim Trail saddle for sale, that was to small for person bought for. It was SOLD as a 15 inch, but the seat actaully measures 14.5" . I can shipped it to you for $600.00.Sells retail for $750- to $1000.00 I paid $750. It is Brand NEW still has the Tags on it. Email for pics if interested to oncoursefarm@honey.toast.net Thanks, Hope you find what you are looking for. Sounds like the previous advice on size is pretty good. I have 7 year old twin grandkids riding in a 13 inch western a little to big. They are averaged size. Lynn
