EZ & I are thinking of doing the Ladies Ride in May. I was hoping you and PG might join us. We're thinking of camping at MTR and driving over to ride at Blackwell. Whadaya think?

Also, I'm still out on a limb about having the DE Ride in October. Summer can be unpredictable when it comes to heat, but I've always liked riding out of MTR in the summer. It could be comfortable or it could be humid and miserable. It could be dry or it could be rainy. I don't try to predict the weather when choosing when I camp out and ride. If I did, I wouldn't even leave the house most of the time. And Flooper; I've hauled Dove to OKC twice in 90 to 100 degree heat. That's averaging about 12 to 14 hours in a horse trailer, and I've done it twice without any problems. I'll take a little heat to cold nights in a trailer(I've decided to camp out of my trailer this year and save a little money.) any day of the week. And horses stand out in the heat whether they're at home or in a campground... AND it's always cooler back in the woods.

You guys choose whatever date you want, let me know what you decide, and then I'll decide whether I'll go or not, but I was quite content with it in June. That gave me one organized ride in the spring and the ITRA ride later in the year. It makes for a good balance to my riding schedule.

I agree, the best thing to do would be to pick a date, and those who can make it, will. It is impossible to predict the weather this far ahead, so basing the date of the ride on that, will probably not work out.

MTR is such a great place to camp, that I wouldn't mind going there several times this year. Maybe we could have more than one DE ride, and people could come to which ever one they want?

Probably because so many of us that go to the DE Ride also go to the ITRA Fall Ride that's already that time of year. I always look forward to the DE Ride as the best campout and trail ride of the year. I haven't missed a one since we started doing it. I sure would hate to not be able to go because of scheduling, but if it's put in October, I doubt if I'll be going. We get swamped with overtime that time of year, and it's next to impossible to get a Saturday off in October. The 1st weekend of October would be right smack dab in the middle of it.

I'm about ready to back EZ in having two rides and let everyone decide which one they want to go to or even go to both. I vote for when we always had it in June (or July 16-18) and one in October for those who can't stand the heat. I just wish we could come to a decision that everyone can agree on.

I also would like to suggest setting an annual date for this ride so we can avoid trying to figure out when to have the ride every year. Put it on the same month and weekend and leave it there. JMO

Okay...how about this? One on July 16th-18th, and another on October 1-3. People could sign up for either, or both! I am hoping to attend both. If anyone would like to come in October, though, I'd urge them to make reservations as early as possible, since MTR fills up really quickly at that time of year.

I totally love MTR, and am hoping to go as often this year as possible. I know those who live further way, will probably be able to attend only one of the rides. But, hey, this would give us all more flexibility.

I can do just about any date other than September, since I am hoping to finally get to go to Florida and see the ocean sometime that month (after Labor Day). I like the idea of two DE rides this year, providing better opportunities for folks to come to at least one ride. Those of us closer to MTR could possibly come to both.

Alrighty...I am NOT trying to take over here, but making a decision now as to when to have the ride or rides, does help those who have to put in for vacation time in advance. Not to mention, it also is always good to be able to get in your reservation early!

So, if nobody has any strong objections, let's set the dates as July 16-18 and October 1-3. DE folks and friends can come to either or both. We can have our pitch-in dinners on Saturday evening, with those who chose not to camp or ride, welcome to come by and share a meal. For the July ride, while I can't afford to provide steaks for everyone, I would be happy to make a big batch of sloppy joes and provide buns. Everyone else could then bring side dishes and desserts. For the October ride, I was thinking chili or vegetable soup would be nice!

If anyone objects to the dates, or has other ideas about the meals, feel free to say something!

I will for sure do the Oct. ride, with my friend, Maria. May possibly make the July ride as well.

LOL, sometimes I think it works better to just close your eyes, pick a date, and GO FOR IT!!! No matter how many attend, those of us who do, should have a great time!

As hard as it is to believe, what with this rain that has been coming down all day, it won't be long until trail riding season, and the DE rides, come around again!

Just so we will have a "headquarters" for each ride, I went ahead and made my MTR reservations. Both July 16-18 and October, I have site 21. This is directly across from Cabin 13. I would recommend that anyone wanting to stay in the cabins, to try to reserve cabins 13, 14, or 15, and people wanting camp sites, to reserve sites 21, 23, 24, 25, etc.

GENERALLY, they are not that full for open weekends in July, so those not sure they can attend, would probably be safe waiting until the time draws closer, before making reservations. You might even be able to get in at the last minute.

October is a different story!! It is probably the most popular month for trail riding at MTR, and I'd advise y'all to make your reservations as soon as possible. I believe the Hoosier Back Country Horsemen are having a ride that same weekend, so it would not surprise me if they had a full campground come Oct. 1st.

OMG! I just realized that the October weekend is when the Free Style Dressage is at the World Equestrian Games. I'll be there Friday nite for it and perhaps on Saturday for cross country and will have company (human this time)as well. I can't believe I might miss BOTH rides.

No tank tops for me ,the need to hide my chubby upper arms is way more powerful than the slighter cooler effect of a tank! UGH!!!

I would like to be next to EZ if possible. So I'd like either site 20 or 22. I'll try and get in touch with MTR tomorrow and see if that's possible.

Uh, it has been a good 30 years since I've worn a tank top...and if ya ever saw me in one, you'd know why! But maybe there could be some kind of an option of either a t-shirt or a tank top? Tuffy might be able to find out if it would be possible to give people a choice.

I just made reservations for the July ride, coming in on the 16th and leaving on the 18th. I have site 22. Ginger, site 20 was still open. If it's not when you call, get site 23 and we can swap sites

I will make reservations for the Oct ride with my next pay check

Soooo ready for the weather to be nice and start riding!
