Tuffy, if you feel okay with planning it 2 months post-surgery, then I'd vote for the June date. If not, then how about July 9-11th?

Oh, I just saw that Juli can't make it that weekend; July 16th-18th would work for me, too.

Since I will be at MTR the week of and after the ITRA ride, the only possibilities for me are July and Aug.

I'll put my vote in for July 16th-18th, too, though anytime from June through early August would work for me... just some I can get my vacation request in before April 1st to secure those dates to be off from work.

I'll go with July 16th-18th, too. Maria will be joining me.

Hi, My name is Linda and I'm new to the forum. I was just wondering what all the rides were that you are talking about and where they are. I read far enough to get info on the Midwest ride but am not sure what the rest is all about. Could someone shed some light on this for me?

Hi, Linda, and welcome to the DE. This thread is about a ride we have had several years in a row, that we call "the DE ride." It has usually been held in June, but probably will be in July this year. It is held at a place called Midwest Trail Ride, which is a private horse camp bordering the Hoosier National Forest in southern Indiana. So, this is actually only ONE ride we are talking about here.

Hi Linda;

Welcome aboard. Glad to have you.

There a lot of folks from Indiana here andI am sure that you could hook up with some for trailriding.

I note from your profile that you live near Plymouth with your family and THREE horses.

Would love to see some pictures.

You can check out some of the member posts in the Trails section for more info on the DE rides of 2007, 2008, & 2009.

Hi Linda and welcome to the forum!

I live too far away to go on the rides (Alaska) but even so...this is the best group of folks to chat with! Hope to see more of you here, and some of your pictures... (hint, hint!)

Thanks so much for the info and the welcomes. I will try to get some pictures up here soon. Not real computer savy but I'm working on it. I'm always learning and it always seems to be changing.

I really, really want to make it to the DE ride this year and see all of you. Fall would work best for me...plus I think the weather would be much better for hauling my horses for 8 hours!! So, I vote for a Fall ride...would be different from past DE rides, and I'm pretty sure I could make it in the Fall...not sure I could in June (and WOULD NOT!!) in July. MTR is a great place, so that would be fine with me...but I'm open to other places as well. Really hope to see you all again!!

Pretty sure I could...Sept. would be better, but I could probably make it in August. Just worried about the HEAT!!!

I don't think I could make the whole weekend in July but could come maybe for a ride on Saturday. I'll have "house guests" for a couple of weeks during that time. My sis's 2 dawgs will be vacationing here while sis and 2 legged family camp their way through some of the west's national parks. I doubt hubby would want to take all 4 dogs on by himself for more than a few hours.

I can't imagine July being anything but HOT!

Did MTR have any open weekends in October?

LOL, maybe we could combine the ITRA ride and the DE ride in September! Although they always hope to fill the campground with ITRA members, they usually end up having open camping on the same weekend.

Just a thought!

Sept. 17-19 is the ITRA ride, I believe, which is why I was saying maybe we could have both together! If we do decide to do that, people will need to make sure they get their reservations in early!

The ITRA has a big pitch-in dinner on Saturday night; many of us here on the DE are members, and I'd urge anyone in the state who trail rides, to join, just because it is a terrific organization, and does a lot to keep trail open to horses here in Indiana. Yearly membership is $20 for a family, I believe.

Anyone from out of state or not interested in becoming members, could probably attend the dinner as guests of those of us who are members.

But, both of the open weekends in October would work for me, too. Here again, reservations would need to be made early, because MTR fills up quickly in the fall.

I should be able to make Sept 17 - 19 or Oct 1 - 3. I do think if it's going to be a fall ride we need to pick a date soon so people can begin making reservations. Campgrounds do fill fast in the fall.

Most October dates are scheduled rides for Midwest. Cost may be more, but scheduled rides include all meals. If we do choose an October date, we will need to get reservations in ASAP, because October slots fill up very fast! Lovely time to ride in Indiana.
