I'm getting ready to purchase a 2 year old Percheron mare that weighs about 1600lbs and will get to be about 1800lbs. She will end up being about 16.5 hands. I'm looking for a saddle that will be comfortable for her and I during the rest of her growing and even after that. I am a 5'11 male weighing about 150lbs and have little to no rear. I'm not going to be doing any contest riding, mostly pleasure and trail. I want something that is going to be snug but VERY comfortable, as I mentioned, I am pretty flat reared. I'm looking for a Western saddle with padding. Website addresses and product numbers would be great. Also, I need to know what size to be looking for. It must be comfortable for her and I.

There are two options at http://www.horsesaddleshop.com/drafhorsad.html

The first the bh1680 in 16". It has a good padded roughout seat which will help keep you in. It gives the snug feel.

The 2nd is the y2177 in 16". I has a smooth leather padded seat which is a bit softer than the bh1680. It does not have the roughout to help you stick in the seat, but does have the 5" cantle which helps keep you in position. The leather is a bit higher quality than the bh1680 but if both are well maitained, in 20 years you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Chuck, are you referring to the BH1682 rather than the 1680?

Also, do they only come in brown?

No, I'm referring to the 16" BH1680. The bh1682 is 17.5".
