I went gaited almost 9 years ago and I have never regretted it. I would not go back to a WTC horse now. Having easy gaited horses allows me to continue to ride with my handicap. I couldn't otherwise.

The first easy gaited horse I ever rode was a Rocky Mountain mare a friend asked me to show for him. She won me over on the first stride and I eventually accumulated a small herd for myself. I am down to 1 Rocky/Tenn cross, 1 Kentucky Mountain Pleasure, 1 KMP/Peruvian Paso cross and 1 TWH. They are all a great pleasure to ride.

Glad you enjoyed yourself!!

Truth should be everpresent.

Glad they got it all, I could think of was how easy it would have been to clean his sheath while he was standing there! Hope he is healing up at a nice rate.

Very interesting photos...yes, we horse people have seen just about everything, so most of us don't get grossed out by things like this!

Wishing Blue a speedy recovery!

The Carcinoma was removed on friday by an amazing vet at Auburn University. They had to leave it open so that it could close from the inside out so now I just have to keep it clean and wait and waiting s the worst part!

The amazing thing about all of this was that our vet performed a miracle and only charged us $255.04 for everything. She had originally quoted us $500 during last week's exam, but we couldn't pay it that day AND have enough gas to get home so we asked if we could do it the next week instead so we could get some more money together. She only charged us for the things that were used in the surgery and not a penny for her own fee. She made all of us cry

Good work TMH. Great to see that nasty thing gone from Blue.

The vet who did the surgery deserves a lot of "ATTA GIRL" from us. She must be a very nice person to do that. I think Blue should send her a Thank You Valentine's Day card with a big box of chocolates.

Her real name is powder but she is being renamed Faith so I will have Faith, hope and Love. Kinda cool!
Ok 7 year old trail horse rode by older beginner rider who was in a car wreck and no longer able to ride. This is one laid back horse with some really pretty blue eyes, and at 13.3-14 hands she is the perfect size and yes I bought her and bringing home sunday

If you want to trail ride, getting a horse that can already do what you want, is the best way to go! I think you will have much better luck with this one, than with the young Morgan stallion you were considering! She looks like she needs some TLC, and who better to give it, than you?

He will be home for my birthday on June 1st.Nice Bay with a stripe and a couple of socks. Once again If I can figure out things I will get a picture up!

I have only heard awesome things about the Deanna and Barry. I liked the Glenn Hamilton in Kentucky also but wanted someone really familiar with gaited horses also. Some say they are trained the same wether gaited or not but why take the chance when I know there are people like the Harden's that make your trail horse into all they can be!!

Good examples of Barry & Deanna's training methods is EZ's Warsong, my very own Terra, and for those who remember her, Donna's Red. When all three of us used to ride together, we were a living ad for the Hardin's.

Appearently his handling is not going well as Glen called and won't let him go till at least 2 months after castrating as he is being aggressive, so I politely declined for now. Back to looking!

I have to agree with PG; kind of a relief to know you are going to pass on him. I know you can't really go by a picture, but my feeling when I saw it was that this was an unstable and dangerous horse. For sure, you can find something with a more quiet disposition that would be a better trail prospect. Your two fillies send out "sensible" vibes to me; why not save your training money and spend it on them? Of course, I realize that doesn't give you something to ride NOW, LOL!

Been over a year so guess it was time....solid butt thump ...no bruises but boy does it hurt to sit and get up! Gotta lean forward to sit ...I guess I could still ride in 2 point!

The silly part, it was end of ride, walking back to the arena gait and patting my fjord on the neck good boying him... split second and I am facing the other direction at a run. Almost held on...guess almost doesn't count though.. Was beautiful out, 70s but windy so not sure what spooked him.. leaf? fly? I had lunged him prior as he seemed pretty antsy and hadn't ridden since Sunday... it is a mystery!

I'm glad nothing but the buns were bruised! Joe tends to be a bit more "alert" when it's windy. I read or heard somewhere that if the wind is blowing it can mask the sounds of a predator sneaking up so in the horse brain it pays to be extra jumpy when it's windy. One can never be too safe.

PG...that makes sense. Those predator leaves/flies can be deadly....to the rider!

I'm ticked...can't ride, just too sore and it is sooo gorgeous out this weekend. So we are lunging, getting alot of other stuff done since it feels better to stand than to sit.....and mope!

Much as I have plenty- o- padding, I have no bruise but darned painful on my tailbone...I think I broke my butt! I may have to get an xray if the pain doesn't ease up. 2 glasses of wine last night didn't numb it...and I'm a cheap drunk!

You might want to try a chiropractor. Mine found my tail bone out of wack and put it back in one session, no problem, and the pain was gone. Of course if it is muscle bruising (whether you see it or not), only time can heal that I'm afraid.

Ouch! Don't you just hate those dramatic dismounts?

I hit the dirt last fall while riding Sunny. He turned sharply on a hill and my saddle rolled and right off I went! Sunny just looked at me like, "What in the world are you doing?" I started laughing my butt off lol Rode the rest of the day but man was I sore the next day!

I'm glad you weren't too hurt! Those windy days are tricky and everything becomes a horse eating monster, even their own body parts! (tail swishing, ears twitch, etc)

Usually by this time of year, I'm complaining about the snow, ice & cold. Today, I rode in in a t-shirt & shirt. well and jeans. No coveralls, no layers with a big heavy jacket, no gloves, no scarf or heavy boots with thick socks and no cozy thingy on my helmet. When I groomed Joe, I left almost a knee deep pile of white hair around him.

We've had 2 snows which have amounted to "dustings". The pond hasn't frozen over and I was sort of looking forward to that since I didn't have to chop it for geese for the 1st time in YEARS. (I wonder if I've jinxed myself!)

I know Alaska has been under the gun with tons of snow & cold temps but who else has had even a normal winter? Who has snow cover right now?

Had snow but all gone now. Our weather has been about the same as yours.

Discussion overheard at the restaurant, folks saying has been so nice it was not worth going to Florida this winter.

Weather report says it will last until spring!

No snow here either...no surprise But having warmer weather here too, 70s again for the 2nd week, 30s in the early AM. I'd sure like some rain.

PG, what is chopping up the pond for geese?

Plenty of rain and mud here. Warm temps too. It's been above freezing for over a week and was in the 50s a few days ago. Still going to be in the 40s for a few more days.

It might be nice not putting up with snow or freezing temps, but I can't remember the last time the ground didn't freeze at least two feet thick and sometimes three. This is what keeps the bugs down in the summertime. Just hope we don't get overrun with the little monsters this summer when we want to get out and ride.

Fractured,

The pond usually freezes over for several weeks in the winter and I've always kept a hole open for the geese so they can get water & a bath. I fed them in their hole too but since we rehomed the last goose last spring, I wasn't going to have to bust ice this year for them.

Don't get too comfortable, PG & RH! Wintah isn't ovah yet! Anything can happen...though I'm hoping it will stay mild! Although, as RH says, this will probably mean we will have more bugs next spring & summer!

We're having snow right now but very little on the ground and it will be gone tomorrow. Supposed to be sunny and 45 again on Monday. Sure wish I could find someone to ride with me.

Our nice weather ended today. It's gloomy, rainy, cold & generally yucky out. Forecast is for colder weather & possible snow. I'm glad I got another ride in yesterday! Rode a little over an hour crisscrossing across our farm & a neighbors.

At least the trail riding & camping fever isn't quite as bad today since it's nasty out!

Don't Worry

At age 20 we worry about what others think of us;
At age 40 we don't care what they think of us;
At age 60 we realize that they haven't been thinking of us at all

I turned 60 in November and I don't even have my horse yet... how do ya think I feel lol My Mom is 98, and still going.I have high hopes..

Well Ginger, I left home, dropped out of school, and took a 25 year "vacation" when I was 17. (Had the luck to stumble into the funds to enable it shortly after leaving home.)

Now I'm working my butt off at 62. Count your blessings!
